      There's always a huge mount to learn, even in a seemingly simple plane like the 172. That's what keeps me coming back!

    Switching to my left fuel tank before i descend, to fix my center of gravity, helped me quite a bit with my Cessna 172 landings.

      Yeah fuel balance is important. I try to remember to keep the fuel lever in the middle from startup but often forget.

      @@GotSpaceGame I can totally relate to that. Have gotten the low fuel warning quite often.
      Now i have added to the cessna 208 great caravan to my fleet, suddenly i have other stuff to worry about

      @@unclealig For the most part of the flight i use the center position on the fuel selector. Before landing i switch to the left side to make the left wing lighter. When you start on the runway your left wing has less fuel (the tanks are in the wings) to counteract some forces the aircraft experiences by shifting the center of gravity to the right. I basicly reproduce the staring canfiguration for smoother landings, at least it feels like it helps me out a lot.

    Could you do the same tutorial for the cessna 208 caravan, it gets pretty messy with all the different wayponts in the cargo missions

    I learned this in msfs 2020 and use this approach all the time in career mode for 2024. It looks like you switched your destination runway. However, when I switched my landing runway I got a deduction for that.

      @@StephenSmith-s6t so the thing that seems to matter for your score is to land on the runway you've been given by ATC. At an untowered airport you simply choose the runway and announce position via the comms menu, then after that just hitting Enter on the prompts will work fine. For towered airports you'll need to listen to the runway you're given and be ready to switch up your procedure in the FMC to match, or try requesting a different runway if you don't like what ATC is telling you to do (although it won't always let you)

    I requested Flight Following, she did not give me an altimeter setting such as 30.43 in. , but gave me QNH 1008.
    I am aware I can convert from milibars to inches of mercury, but is there any way to set a QNH of 1008 in the aircraft?

      ah. I found something. in the C172, if you look at the analog altimeter, a milibar conversion is shown on the right.
      the only problem is, I think the scale is wrong. Google tells me that 1017 hPa equates to 30.03 inHg. But when I adjust the dial to 1017, the equivalent inHG setting is very low. Edit: Confirmed. I found a bug report on the MSFS forums about this.

      @@SmoofyTripp that's just the normal map screen, so off the top of my head you hit FPL to back out of the Flight Plan, and then you can pan and zoom the map by right-clicking the zoom knob to unhook the map, then clicking the zoom knob and pulling it around like a little joystick. Right clicking the zoom knob again will recenter everything.

    When I enable VNAV and Approach mode at top of descent, all goes nicely, reducing altitude to curcuit altitude, until i try to lower flaps and shortly after my autopilot just wants to hold a certain altitude it doesn't want to descend further.
    Not sure what I am doing wrong.

      @@oosief is approach mode actually going active? You should see a green GS indication at the top of the PFD. If it's not green then you will level off at your selected altitude or the final waypoint height (magenta altitude that appears next to your selected altitude).
      If you're levelling before approach mode goess active then it may be that your selected altitude is too high.
      The flaps shouldn't have any effect here so I suspect it's just coincidental.

      @@oosief Normally 2 things to check - whether you have set correct FAF altitude so that the GS is intercepted and your speed is relatively low so that by following the nose down attitude of the glide slope the aircraft does not overspeed - if the autopilot thinks there will be overspeed then it will not follow the GS but fly over the runway.

    Best tutorial! Been getting S since using this. Thanks! Btw quick question, did one flight in seattle area where runway was inside valley with a lot of mountains. Approach(GPS) was taking me through the mountains hence I had to disconnect and manually land. Which makes sense. Did I maybe miss something while setting up or is this expected on these type of runways?

      Usually in this kind of situation the runway is aligned to the valley so the approach itself will work out. A couple of times I've had to flick off the autopilot to clear a ridge then flick it back on again. Getting to the start of the approach might need some thought for the descent into the valley. If the airport has a published RNAV or ILS approach then that's almost always a better option.
